The Japanese Working Holiday Visa is all about showing your tourism intentions first, with work as the add-on that funds your travels. This is your chance to see the deer in Nara's deer park or see stunning views of Mount Fuji.
For your visa appointment, you will need to show intended travel plans for your entire length of stay (this should be for at least 7 months and no more than 12 months), this should show intention to travel as well as temporary work. We’ll walk you through what to prepare so your application hits the Working Holiday Visa rules and keeps your plans flexible.
Visa processing usually takes about 1 week, and we’ll help you with all the details - remember the embassy will keep your passport whilst processing.

This section should focus on travel and cultural experiences, not only focused on work, and should complement (not repeat) your motivational statement.
- Motivational Statement Letter – An A4-length letter explaining why you wish to travel to Japan on a Working Holiday Visa, what you are interested in and what you want to see in Japan. Secure your winter job
When you’re invited to an employment interview, it’s your chance to show who you are and what you’ll bring to their team. We’ll help you prepare, walking you through what to expect in a Japanese job interview and how to make a great impression.
Once you’ve passed an employer interview, you’ll receive a formal job offer. If you don’t land one straight away, don’t worry. It can take a few tries to find the perfect fit. If you've already had your visa approved, then you can also confirm any job offers.
Your employer will finalise your job placement and paperwork. You’ll sign your contract directly with your employer, and we’ll be there to help if you have any questions. It's not uncommon for your exact job role and accommodation-type to be confirmed once you arrive at the resort in Japan... so don't stress, this is all part of the adventure! Our Japanese-speaking support is on stand-by if you have any questions when you arrive.
Employers hire right through to the end of October, so it might be a few weeks before you hear back.
Your final payment is due once your placement is confirmed (and should be paid without delay), so everything’s sorted even if you’re placed later in the season.
Get ready to go
You're nearly ready...
Book your flights - you may have booked before your visa appointment. We'll let you know when and where your Arrival Orientation will be, either Tokyo or Sapporo, depending on your placement location. We'll also advise you what times and dates for the Airport meet & greet.
Sort out your insurance - you may already have this sorted if you applied for your visa in Dublin. You are responsible for buying your own insurance, this must include snow sports cover and personal liability, and cover you for your entire intended stay in Japan (at least 7 months and up to 12 months). We'll advise you of an appropriate coverage or you can find your own!
Then, before you fly, you’ll get pre-departure info and practical tips to help you feel fully prepared, from packing lists to cultural pointers.
And of course, our team’s always on hand if you have any questions.
You’ll also virtually meet other travellers via our WhatsApp group that are heading out for the season: your winter crew connects here.
Get excited for your Japanese Working Holiday Adventure!
